Sounds interesting...We were drawn together by a calling: We felt that today's artificial intelligence was moving too fast, was mediated by too many layers of abstraction, and was too disconnected from its roots.
So we started Artisanal AI, where we are remedying that with hand crafted AI solutions. At Artisanal AI we do it all from scratch: backprop, adversarial neural nets, stochastic gradient descent are all calculated by hand, step by step, one iteration at a time. We use the tools of our fathers and grandfathers -- calculators, slide rules and even abaci -- to lovingly create machine learning algorithms that may not be as fast, but they are authentic.
Our tools aren't made from plastic or silicon. They're made from wood and steel.
Taking cues from the slow food movement, we created our own slow code movement. That gives you time to savor more and k-fold validate less.
Each craftsman spends 8 hours/day carefully calculating gradients by hand.
